The Kosovo Security Force (KSF) contingent deployment held Tuesday a ceremony ahead of the deployment in the first peacekeeping mission in the world abroad.

A small contingent of the Kosovo Army troops will join the US Army in Kuwait, under the command of the National Guard of Iowa. Acting president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, called this a historic day. “I have come to tell you God bless you and thank you,” Osmani told the KSF soldiers.

“The six-month mission is becoming possible thanks to the partnership with the US military. Our peacekeepers will be by their side in this noble mission. This contingent is small in number but large in content and message. These men are writing the new history of Kosovo. As politicians we can sometimes disagree and debate fiercely; this is part of our democracy. But when it comes to our men and women in uniform, our army, as politicians and citizens we all stand united. We are all proud of you.”

Kosovo’s parliament voted in 2018 to transform the lightly armed Kosovo Security Force into full fledged-army. /GazetaExpress/
